GANDHI TEERTH museum was envisaged to “preserve for posterity the profound legacy of Gandhi’s life, thought and work.” The complex, at Jain Hills in Jalgaon, India, nestled in a verdant campus, has been built to exacting sustainability norms. Sited in a clearing in a thickly wooded area with existing steep contours, the zoning scheme of the museum was meticulously devised to ensure negligible cutting and filling maintaining the natural topography. The gallery of the museum is on a ramp fashioned out of natural contours.

Built with highly sustainable sandstone and hydraulic-lime mortar, the envelope of the building is especially designed cavity-wall of better u-value.

Living up to Gandhi’s slogan “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” this project is exemplary in the manner in which it leaves no stone unturned in its quest for true sustainability.
